Destined for Office Design

office fitouts MelbourneI’ve seen every single one of my grandchildren grow up and currently I’ve got a perfect score when it comes to guessing what they’ll be doing later in life. I held my grandson in my arms when he was recently born and said…librarian. Twenty years later, he finishes a book filing course and he’s now a junior librarian at his local community centre, and I’m right yet again.

Three years later I held my first granddaughter, I made my prediction of gardener…and now, hey presto. She just planted her first bulb as part of the local council’s green initiative. Call it grandmother superpowers, although I was pretty accurate as a mother as well. My son spent twelve years doing office fitouts in Melbourne, which I like to think I saw coming as well. I didn’t make any predictions, but I watched as he moved the furniture around his room, and how he optimised his father’s study when he was in year six, and I thought…this is a sign. It was indeed a sign of things to come, so after that I discovered my hobby of guessing what people are going to grow up to do.

I don’t think any more of my grandchildren are going to follow in their father’s footsteps and do office space design. Jeremy is only one, but I’m fairly sure he already has plans to be an astronaut. Phoebe won’t want to dirty her nails; she’s headed for a career in modelling, that one. Not necessarily modelling herself, but she’ll at least be behind the camera, or applying makeup backstage. Showbiz, that’ll be it for her.

And little Sheldon is on the way. If I had to guess, being the youngest child I think he’ll be into the arts. They always are, the youngest children…the arts, or something off-kilter. The weird ones, you might say. Though maybe he’ll use that rebellious spirit and actually follow in the ways of a Melbourne office design professional. There’s a definitely an art to the job, after all!
