Exclusive function room a big hit

function room with cateringInvestigative journalism is about the truth. My editor keeps telling me to cover the gossip magazine stuff, or maybe go and film a baby possum trying to ride a skateboard. Uh, yeah, no. We have airheads enough in the newsroom who are happy to go chasing the safe stuff. I want juicy stories, and I have an eye for them like no one else.  A nose for them too. It’s something every good reporter needs in their arsenal, because you’ll never get anywhere just by having stories dropped into your lap.

I moved to Melbourne to pursue this goal, after my original story went bust. I was SO close to uncovering the truth behind Church Park in Canberra. There was something weird going on, I swear, but I showed up one day for an exclusive interview and the whole place was deserted. Every
one had just…vanished overnight, with no one the wiser.

Now I’m on something different. I just got a call from a contact in a major Melbourne function room. And I’m talking major. They have an ice skating rink downstairs and everything, really fancy. Does that make it fancy? I guess it makes it more fun, because once you’d have enough punch and canapes you can just hope downstairs and try your hand at some ice skating, which sounds like a great party to me. The only thing missing is the bouncy castle, though I’m sure we could make that happen.

I’m getting distracted. The function room was for the mysterious Lawrence Corp, and no one from that company EVER gives interviews. They just stay holed up in their tower. The place only started a month or so ago, and they’re already making huge waves in the tech industry, so obviously plenty of people want to know the secret to their success (or a press-palatable version). I thought a company function was the perfect place to get a statement, maybe even from Mr Lawrence himself!

Aaaaand then they didn’t let me in. Wow, I’ve never seen any corporate function venues here in Melbourne with so much security. I think they brought their own. Ah well…now I’m even hungrier for this story.
