You know what they say: lasers make everything better. They also say that a happy wife is a happy life, but as you can see, those two statements are at the opposite end of the scale of progressivism. Lasers are the way of the future. Though maybe a laser can make a happy wife, in some way. Lasers make me happy. It’s why I chose to study them at uni.
My goal was to create non-invasive cosmetic surgery involving lasers, until I realised that already exists. Like, someone could’ve told me; I was a year in before my tutor helpfully pointed out that my miniature thesis- Laser Hair Removal in Melbourne: How Lasers Will Revolutionise the Industry!- was a bit outdated. People in Melbourne already have laser hair removal, all the time. I don’t have any sisters and I know for a fact that Mum still buys razors so how was I to know?? Had to start that one again on something that wasn’t a passion subject, simply die to the deadline being far too close to be my best work. It became Lip Injections: Methods of Integration and Relaxation for Patients. Got a good enough grade, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about lasers.
Naturally when my second year rolled around, I made sure I did all the research, asked my Mum, asked my Mum’s friends, asked my tutor, asked the girls in my course and did an on-the-street survey in which I asked people how they’d improve the current laser hair removal service. A lot of people said the name was a bit intimidating, but that was all I got. It’s not like changing it to ‘Photon Hair Removal’ would really be a revolution.
So I travelled to Ballarat to get some of their laser hair removal, first-hand, to complete my research. I walked out with one leg smooth, which felt odd but really helped me to understand: the industry doesn’t need changing. It felt great. Now I’m all about improving Melbourne’s dermal fillers with my new thesis: Filling Those Dermals: Need There be Needles?
