So, new café. Not bad so far, though why they’d plant one smack bang in the middle of the CBD is beyond me. Melbourne has enough coffee places as it stands, and they’re going to have to finish construction before they can compete. I’m surprised they even opened the place with one corner still being built, but I guess they want word to spread of their magnificent new coffee.
Chairs aren’t bad, though at the current time I have one option: sit up straight, or have the chair opposite jabbing into my knee. I can’t be creative if I’m not slouching a little bit. The large cappuccino looks like a small, but it’s cheaper than usual so basically the sizes are ‘small’ and ‘even smaller’. Guess I’ll just have to order two? Taste is…interesting. More on that later.
The aluminium work platforms are really killing the vibe, though. I get that they’re used for construction and pulling them apart at a moment’s notice isn’t exactly a cinch. Maybe the work people are using them later today. Really, though, they clash with the vibe the café is going for. That’s why I think they should’ve opened this place a bit later, after everything was done. In the one corner you’ve got tarps, paintbrushes and a host of ladder platforms…but the rest of the café is going for a classy art theme. Well, I say ‘classy’…it’s modern, so maybe not so much. I like some of the art lining the walls, but there are all these statues around and it’s freaking me out. A few feet away there’s a pair of legs sticking out of the ground, dressed in army camo. In the sofa area…a headless mummy.
Actually, maybe the aluminium platforms are a piece of modern art? That’s how art is nowadays; all down to earth. Maybe it’s a postmodern statement on the state of aluminium planks and trestles, and I’m just a pleb. Guess that’s it.
Hoo, boy, wow, this coffee is strong…
