So I have officially moved to Melbourne! The move was hard but smooth. My family back in my home country were in two minds about letting me leave, with almost all of them disagreeing with my decision. Some people were worried about me being a single woman alone in an unknown country (or our country for that matter) and some of my family shunned me and told me I am the spawn of Satan. The only person who supported me was my sister, who is one year my junior. She knows what it’s like to be a woman in our home country, and although she isn’t brave enough to talk to a buyers’ agent near the Malvern area and move across the world, she wholeheartedly understood my position. Other than my parents who I will love and miss no matter what, she is the only other person who I am sad to leave behind.
I’m hoping that once I’m settled in Melbourne she will want to move in with me. Obviously, I only bought a house that has two bedrooms, so if she decides to leave our home country I will need to speak to another buyers’ agent around Kew to see if I can buy a three-bedroom home somewhere else.
I am lucky that money is no issue. For the majority of the people in my home country, moving across the world for a better life for themselves and their children is an impossible dream. Thankfully I had a significant inheritance that was given to me once I finished my studies. Whilst everyone else in my family has spent their money within our home country, I chose to spread my wings and look for a better opportunity. I’ve found that opportunity and I can’t wait to see my new home. I’m about to get through customs and once I do, my life is going to change forever. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared, but I’m more excited.
