I should probably go to work, or maybe do some laundry, or…literally anything around the house. As it stands, I can barely take the time to write this, because a series of excellent books is holding me hostage. Like, almost literally. Fifteen Days of Neigh, the story of a love affair between two horses forced to race against each other despite their burning passion? I can’t look away.
Words are powerful things, I realising. I can barely put my love for these amazing, well-crafted books into words, which is something slightly ironic, but I’m starting to understand what my boss was getting at when he’s been hammering in the seminar idea at every staff meeting. He’s had me searching for some keynote speaker in Australia, whoever he thinks will inspire the people in the office to do their jobs and not get distracted.
Thing is, he gets just as distracted as the rest of us, so it’s a never-ending conundrum. He tells me to find a keynote speaker to come into the office, I start to do my job as his PA like a good employee, but a few minutes later I find myself on Fifteen Days of Neigh fan websites, looking up theories as to love triangles and all sorts, and I’ve forgotten all about it. The boss has forgotten to remind me, so no one is on track. He brings it up at every staff meeting, and I can tell people really need a bit of motivational speaking to get the in gear, but they can’t muster up the spirit.
How do you even solve this? We need an inspirational speaker to inspire us, but we can’t work up the inspiration to call upon an inspirational speaker. The ultimate catch-22, as they say. I need to be the one to break the cycle! Except…I’m up to book 2 of Fifteen Days of Neigh, Sugarlump has just confessed his love for Annabelle, even though she’s into Pharlap IV…ugh, so compelling.
