Alone in My Beach Apartment…

Gee, we really do have a skewed view of fairy-tales nowadays. Personally, I blame Biz-Ney for making them all sweetness and happiness and lovely endings that make all the kids feel good. I got my hands on a massive book of the original German fairy-tales recently, and…well, I’m pretty shocked. If I ever have kids, I’m keeping them away from this stuff until they’re at least fifteen. Seriously.

Then again, the only reason I was able to read this thing from cover to cover is because I was smart enough to book a beach retreat in the winter. There were supposed to be five of us, but all the other guys bailed for various colourful reasons. Now I’m sitting here in this lonely Lorne beach apartment, because I’d already put down the deposit and I was ready for a holiday, friends be damned. The weather isn’t great, I’ve already visited every café about six times, so now I’m doing that one thing that ordinary life never leaves time for: reading.

The owners of this place were kind enough to leave a load of reading material. So instead of doing fun stuff and shooting the breeze with mates, I’m reading a massive book of fairy-tales. The dream holiday, I guess?? Who needs them anyway.

I’m just finishing the tale of The Brunch-Back of Notre Dame. It’s about some French guy who goes around Paris bringing joy to people at about 11:30am with his rucksack of brunch items, but he’s sad because no one ever wants to have brunch with him. The animated version ended with him as a hero who got the girl (to be friends with him), but here he just dies alone at the end, and brunch wouldn’t become popular for another 500 years.

Yeah, fun. When in quality Lorne accommodation, all alone, catch up on reading! Okay, I’m biting the bullet and booking in summer next time…
