Careers day at school is pretty much my favourite day of the year, mostly because it’s not a sport event and we still get to spend the entire day not doing any work. Sure, there are a couple of boring lectures or whatever, but in the end it’s just wandering around, looking at tables, reading leaflets and sometimes taking weird written tests. Like, what’s your favourite colour…oh sure! You should be a circus clown!
I don’t think circus clown is one of the options, but my friend Darren last year got ‘hotel porter’ and we all thought it was pretty funny since he gets the best marks out of all of us. Meanwhile, I got ‘Highett Property Conveyancing’, which sounded really highbrow and specific or whatever. So much so that I had to look it up to find out what it was. It’s like…okay, let me see if I remember. You get a house, and someone wants to buy it. All good. So, like, they get a conveyancer in, and they handle all the paperwork. Because you can’t just walk into a home, hand over a bag full of cash and say that you want it. It’s like a car; you have to go to an office where they make you sign a bunch of stuff.
Yep, that’s how it works. I actually did a bit of research, as you’d expect because obviously the test never lies and I’m going to be a conveyancer one day. Yeah, so it said that they work office hours, you have to wear a tie and there’s a lot of stuff you have to know about housing laws. So there would be study, and that’s…fine. My marks aren’t that bad. But still…I don’t know if I’m cut out for the 9-5. Like, all that wearing a tie and water cooler conversations. I could learn to love doing property conveyancing in Malvern, or whatever, maybe even learn to love the ins and outs of housing laws. But the 9-5…nah, I’m meant to be out climbing mountains and stuff. Someone else can do it.
