I have a positive update! I’ve been wearing my children’s orthotics for a year now, since I started noticing foot pain back when I was training for triathlons.
I can happily say that I no longer experience any foot pain and I’ve started getting back into training. I need to work on my cardio fitness, but I’ve been bulking in the gym for the last year, so I’ll be able to swim and ride my bike a lot faster than I used to be, due to the sheer amount of muscle that I’ve put on this last year.
I’m really glad that I took the podiatrist at Cheltenham Podiatry seriously. If I hadn’t then I probably wouldn’t be in such a strong position going back into training. I want to be the best in my division, even better than my brother and so I have to take my rehab seriously. Part of being a good athlete is being able to stand up in adverse situations, and I think I’ve shown that I can do that well this year.
My brother has never faced any adversity in his life and I think he would struggle if he ever had to. It would be really hard for him to divert from his perfect life, even just for a couple of months. I couldn’t imagine how he’d survive if he had to give up proper training for a year like I did.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if he started developing an injury, even a non-threatening one like corns and calluses. I think he would have a breakdown if he wasn’t able to spend five hours per day training. Corns and calluses aren’t even bad in comparison to what I’ve experienced, but I bet you he’d act like he was dying the whole time.
But enough about my brother. I’m so excited to start training seriously again. I’m glad my feet are better.
