I miss the golden age of magic, back when everyone was really impressed by sleight of hand tricks. You used to be able to ask people to pick a card, wave your hands around a bit and show them that same card, and they’d be flabbergasted. Sawing a lady in half? Everybody knows how that’s done. And pulling a rabbit out of a hat isn’t going to impress anybody these days.
It’s a tough time to be a magician, certainly. At least, a sleight of hand magician. The real magic business is booming, but I don’t have much interest in that. Sure, I did spend several years studying at Cowboils School of Sorcery, and I know just about every spell in the book, but that stuff is way too easy. Anybody with a spark of magic in them can summon dragons or pull meteors out of the sky. It takes real talent to make something disappear without magic. That’s why I don’t tell anybody I’m a real wizard, and I don’t use my magic to do…well, magic tricks.
I’ve been designing a new trick, one that I think will blow people away. I’m going to film myself driving to a nearby Brighton tyre and auto, where I will order a car service. Then, I’m going to leave the auto shop and go for a walk. While I’m gone, the mechanics are going to swap my car out for a brand new one that looks totally different. The sleight of hand comes in when I get back to the mechanic shop and reveal that there’s a large cloth over my car. I’ll tell the audience that I’m going to magically transform my car, which has just had the best car service Brighton has to offer. I’ll pull the cloth away and reveal my fancy new car, then drive away in it! Everyone will be so shocked, and I’ll be considered one of the best magicians of all time. This trick literally cannot go wrong.
